Ebico Energy was a great ethical energy supplier that delivered great value renewable energy. Unfortunately, while it still functions as a non-profit organisation, Ebico is no longer able to supply energy. Here’s everything former customers need to know in 2021.
Last update: November 2022
As you may have heard on the news, the UK energy market is currently under an immense amount of stress as a result of a global gas shortage driving up costs and putting several energy suppliers out of business. To learn more about this and stay updated on a daily basis you can read our page on the UK energy crisis.

Who were Ebico Energy?
Ebico Energy were (and still are) a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping energy consumers combat fuel poverty. They supplied 100% renewable energy in conjunction with Robin Hood Energy. However, that changed in 2020 when British Gas bought out Robin Hood Energy.
Is Ebico Energy still trading?
While Ebico still exists and functions as a non-profit organisation, it no longer supplies energy. This is because Robin Hood Energy, who supplied energy to the brand, was bought out. As such, it was unable to function as an energy supplier. So new customers can no longer sign up to Ebico’s renewable energy tariffs.
What happened to Ebico Energy?
Usually when a small green supplier goes bust it’s because their ambition exceeds their capability. Or they encounter a terminal cash flow crisis which is exacerbated by a deterioration in customer service as the supplier struggles to keep up with its own growth.
However, that was not the case with Ebico, which enjoyed strong customer sentiment on Trustpilot. Even now, 75% of reviewers on the platform rate the brand as above average. It was simply a case of British Gas taking over Robin Hood Energy that signalled the end of Ebico as an energy supplier. A lot of other municipally-owned energy companies who were reliant on Robin Hood also had to cease trading, including:
- Angelic Energy
- Beam Energy
- CitizEn Energy
- Fosse Energy
- Great North Energy
- The Leccy
- RAM Energy
- Southend Energy
- White Rose Energy
- Your Energy Sussex
When did Ebico Energy cease trading?
Ebico Energy ceased trading in September 2020 when Robin Hood Energy was bought out by British Gas.
Who has taken over Ebico Energy’s customers?
All of Ebico Energy’s customers (as well as the customers of the brands mentioned above) were migrated to British Gas in September 2020. However, many customers have hardly noticed this, because as part of the agreement in purchasing Robin Hood Energy, British Gas promised to honour the rates currently paid by Ebico customers. They will also continue to be supplied with 100% renewable energy.
Can I still keep my Ebico Energy tariff?
Yes, you will still retain your Ebico Energy tariff for its full duration. However, if you are currently on a fixed-rate energy plan, you may find that when it expires, you have no choice but to switch to one of British Gas’ tariffs.
Given that British Gas are renowned for having some of the most expensive tariffs on the market, you may want to move to something that gives you better value for money.
That’s where we come in!
