What makes Nabuh Energy different?

If you have a prepayment meter, it can be very frustrating when choosing a new energy supplier and tariff. It can often feel as though your counterparts with standard credit meters get all the best tariffs. Nabuh Energy are dedicated to helping customers with Pay As You Go Meters to get a fairer deal on their energy. Not only does the brand offer good rates for prepayment customers, they also make life easier for customers who may find it difficult to top up.

For instance, as well as offering emergency credit, they also offer “Friendly Credit” during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. So you’ll never be left in the dark.

But it’s not just prepayment customers that can get a good deal with Nabuh Energy. They also offer competitive fixed-rate tariffs for customers with standard credit meters. With no early exit fees. Ever!

Who are Nabuh Energy?

Nabuh Energy is a small energy supplier based in Sheffield. They claim to have the best rates for customers with prepayment meters, and their ethos is built around getting a better deal for prepayment customers, who have generally been let down by the energy industry.

As their website states:

“Having observed the way prepayment customers are treated, we decided things needed to change. That's why we provide customers with energy that is low-cost and hassle-free”.

Who owns Nabuh Energy?

Nabuh Energy is majority-owned by CEO Klaus Bach. Bach is a shareholder of Juhl Bach Holding. This is one of the biggest family-owned private companies in Denmark.

Are Nabuh Energy any good?

Although they do not offer renewable energy, Nabuh Energy can give you a good deal on your energy if you use a prepayment meter. Even if you have a standard credit meter, you may still get a very competitive energy deal with the brand.

Our opinion on Nabuh Energy

Nabuh Energy have market-leading tariffs for PAYG customers, a generous referral scheme, and safeguards to prevent you from running out of credit. However, their relative lack of renewable energy and less than stellar reviews may give some consumers pause.

Let’s take a look at Nabuh Energy’s performance in all the areas that matter the most to you as an energy consumer…

Nabuh Energy tariffs & prices

Nabuh Energy have built their brand around giving prepayment customers a cheaper energy deal. So let’s take a closer look at their tariffs to see if they live up to this claim.

Nabuh Energy offers 2 tariffs for prepayment customers and 2 for customers with standard credit meters. The prepayment tariffs are named “Lizzy” and “Grace”, while the credit meter tariffs (paid by direct debit only) are called “Jack” and “Mel”. Jack is the tariff for credit meter users while Mel is for smart meter users.

Is Nabuh Energy really cheaper?

Nabuh Energy may be one of the only energy suppliers in the country whose prepayment tariffs are actually cheaper than their tariffs for standard credit meters. However, all tariffs are below the Energy Price Cap of £1,138 per year for both gas and electricity.

Nabuh Energy: What other services do they offer?

Many energy companies offer additional services to complement their energy supply. Does Nabuh Energy offer any of these? Let’s find out…

Do Nabuh Energy do business tariffs?

Nabuh Energy does not currently offer business energy plans, as its ideological focus is squarely on the domestic market.

Do Nabuh Energy have smart meters? What smart meters do they offer?

Yes, Nabuh Energy offers smart meters for both prepayment and credit meter customers. The brand’s “Mel” tariff is designed exclusively for smart meter users.

What’s more, they offer and support the second generation SMETS2 meters. These will remain fully functional if you should switch to a new supplier. Something that isn’t always true of the earlier SMETS1 models.

With a smart meter, not only will you never need to report your meter readings again, you can be assured of accurate energy bills and keep a closer eye on your energy usage. Something that will benefit all energy consumers, no matter what kind of meter they use.

How to apply for the Warm Home Discount with Nabuh Energy

Unfortunately, Nabuh Energy does not offer the Warm Home Discount. This is a government initiative that offers vulnerable energy consumers a flat £140 discount on their energy bills over the colder months from September to April.

Energy suppliers are required to offer this if they have over 250,000 customers. As a smaller supplier, Nabuh Energy is not required to provide this discount. However, you may find that switching to the brand is works out cheaper on balance, even without the Warm Home Discount. Especially if you are on a PAYG meter.

Nabuh Energy customer reviews: What do their customers say?

Weighing up a supplier’s energy tariffs is all well and good. But at Papernest, we understand that energy prices are just one piece of the puzzle. A supplier’s reputation for customer service is every bit as important as pricing.

We can get an understanding of how customers feel about Nabuh Energy by looking at its Trustpilot page. Not only can this give us a brief overview of customer sentiment, it’s also a useful source of qualitative data from customer reviews.

Unfortunately, reviews have not been kind to the supplier on this platform. At the time of writing, Nabuh Energy has an aggregate customer score of 1.6 out of 5, making them a “Bad” supplier.

Nabuh Energy currently has a total of 427 customer reviews. Of which:

  • 42 (10%) were “Excellent”
  • 12 (3%) were “Great”
  • 11 (3%) were “Average”
  • 11 (3%) were “Poor”
  • 351 (82%) were “Bad”

Only 13% of reviewers rated Nabuh Energy as above average, while an 85% majority found them to be either “poor” or “bad”. But there are positives to be mined from this gloomy overview.

Positive reviews mention a high standard of customer service, good value for money and ease of topping up.

Most of the negative reviews focus on technical issues and problems with topping up. However, other areas of concern include slow response times for issues and complaints, as well as long waits to speak to a customer service agent.

Nabuh Energy has responded to 90% of negative reviews on the platform, and usually respond within a week.
