If you don’t already have a solicitor on hand to help you with your legal affairs and taking care of the people who matter the most to you, we recommend taking a look at SCL Wills & Probate. Take a look at their website. Their team of specialists can help you with a range of legal matters, including…

Wills and codicil services

Nobody likes to think about what will happen after they die. Nonetheless, if you die intestate (without a will in place), the way in which your estate is divided may not be in line with your wishes. It’s very important to set up a will, and you’re never too young or too old to put one in place. If you need to make an amendment to your will, SCL Wills & Probate also provide codicil services. A codicil is a legal document that acts as a supplement to your will, and updates some of the clauses. In some cases it may be better to set up a new will.

Probate

Probate is the process of dealing with someone’s estate after they have passed on. Probate may be necessary if someone close to you passes away whose estate exceeds a certain value. This varied between financial institutions. For some it’s £10,000, for others it’s £20,000. The process essentially involves two stages, the first being the value of the estate needs to be reported to HMRC and then the will is submitted to the Probate Registry for a Grant of Probate. SCL Wills & Probate can help you to navigate this process so that the will is executed fairly and in accordance with the deceased wishes.

Power of attorney

If someone close to you is no longer able to make decisions for themselves due to old-age or illness, there are legal processes to help you to protect them. Lasting Power of Attorney confers the legal authority on a spouse, family member or trusted person to act in the best interests of someone who can no longer make informed decisions for themselves. Again, SCL Wills & Probate can help with granting a Lasting Power of Attorney in personal and business contexts.

Court of Protection practice and guidance

The Court of Protection helps people who are no longer able to make their own decisions in regards to financial management. SCL Wills & Probate are able to provide expert guidance for every situation where this is required.

With the right legal advice, you can protect yourself, your estate and those who are closest to you.
