What makes Click Energy different?

Founded in 2015, Click Energy is relatively new. Nonetheless, their website insists that they have many years of experience in the Northern Ireland energy market, and is dedicated to proving to energy consumers that their is “a better way”.

Click Energy has built its brand on providing consumers with a simple, clear energy choice that puts the customer first while also protecting the environment. Its slogan is “click for the climate”, and all its new energy tariffs use 100% renewable energy. It also does not offer gas, making them one of Northern Ireland’s 4 electricity-only suppliers (along with Electric Ireland NI, Power NI, and Budget Energy.

They promise to be open and transparent about the way they work, and where / how they buy their electricity. They also promise to be clear and transparent in their pricing, making it easy to get in touch when you need them.

Who are Click Energy?

Click Energy is a new(ish) energy supplier with a clear focus on renewability, transparency, and customer service. As a small supplier, it is unclear exactly how many customers they have.

In February 2021, Click Energy was announced as a Silver Level Innovator in the Innovate NI Innovation Accreditation programme for its research in predicting energy prices with Ulster University.

Who owns Click Energy?

Click Energy was founded by Damian Wilson, the brand’s Managing Director.

Are Click Energy any good?

They have a good selection of tariffs with reasonable prices, and they seem to genuinely care about delivering great customer service. But do the experiences of real customers reflect this? And are their prices among the most competitive for energy consumers in Northern Ireland?

Let’s dive a little deeper.

Is Click Energy really cheaper?

That depends on who currently supplies your energy, the kind of meter you have, and when you use the most energy. If we assume Northern Irish average usage of 3,200 kWh per year, Click Energy’s prepayment tariffs are potentially cheaper than Budget Energy, SSE Airtricity and Power NI of you factor in the £15 credit for new customers.

Click Energy: What other services do they offer?

Click Energy has a few other services available to business and domestic energy customers. Let’s take a closer look at these here.

Do Click Energy do business tariffs?

Yes, Click Energy offers a selection of green energy tariffs for businesses. There’s even a “Rural Saver” tariff for farmers. Rates are negotiated on an individual basis. They depend on the size of your business, your energy consumption and your peak load hours.

Do Click Energy have smart meters? What smart meters do they offer?

Unfortunately, Click Energy does not currently offer smart meters. However, given that the UK government is keen to make smart meters available to all domestic and commercial energy consumers by 2025, this will hopefully change very soon.

How to apply for the Warm Home Discount with Click Energy

Energy suppliers with over 250,000 customers are required by law to provide the Warm Home Discount. This provides a flat £140 discount on the cost of energy through the colder months from September to March for elderly and vulnerable consumers.

However, as a much smaller supplier, Click Energy does not offer this discount. Nonetheless, prices may still be cheaper than using a larger supplier, even with the Warm Home Discount.

Click Energy customer reviews: What do their customers say?

The Papernest team is always on hand to help you find the right supplier and tariff for your needs. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do a little homework of your own.

Click Energy’s Trustpilot page is a good way to get an overview of customer sentiment. Be aware, however, that some reviewers mention the Australian version of Click Energy which is actually a completely different company to the irish version. As such, overall ratings should be taken with a grain of salt.

Click Energy has an overall customer score of 1.9 out of 5. This makes them a “Poor” supplier.

At the time of writing, Click Energy has only 16 customer reviews. Of which:

  • 1 (6%) was “Excellent”
  • 1 (6%) was “Great”
  • 1 (6%) was “Average”
  • 2 (13%) were “Poor”
  • 11 (69%) were “Bad”

Many negative and neutral reviews were of the Australian company. However, the 2 positive reviews were for the Irish version of Click Energy. Positive reviews focused on substantial monetary savings and ease of getting in touch with Click Energy. Negative reviews, however, cite poor customer service, and unexpected rises in energy costs.

On Reviews.io things are generally more positive, with 58% of customers saying that they would recommend the brand.
