OVO Energy is one of the fastest-growing energy brands in the UK. Its growth became especially substantial in January 2020 when it acquired “Big 6” supplier SSE. Although the SSE brand is still active and SSE customers are still SSE customers, the acquisition added 3 and a half million new customers to the OVO group. OVO is a progressive energy company with a firm focus on renewables, and customer service.

OVO Energy Variable Rate Tariffs
OVO for now only has one variable rate tariff, which is their standard variable rate. With variable rates the rate you pay is subject to daily change but you can also always leave your contract if you like.

Sometimes called double electricity, OVO offers economy 7 plans for those who possess an economy 7 meter. These tariffs have two separate unit rates, one for peak hours of consumption and another for off-peak.

Boiler and home emergency cover
Your boiler is at the heart of your home’s heating. Investing in boiler cover can keep your boiler in peak condition, ensuring that it operates efficiently and protects you from the risk of expensive repairs later down the line.
OVO offers various levels of boiler and home cover starting from £13 per month. The cover provides access to 4,500 approved engineers all over the country and includes:

Broadband
Now that SSE is part of the OVO group, the brand also provides fast fibre broadband with unlimited downloads. Line rental starts from £23 per month for 35Mbps or £26 per month for 63 Mbps.
Do OVO Energy do business tariffs?
Yes, OVO Energy also offers renewable energy tariffs for business customers via SSE. Plans are scalable, and are available to microbusinesses, SMEs, enterprise-level companies and public sector entities.
Rates are negotiated on an individual basis depending on the size of your business, your location, how much energy you use, and when you use it.
Do OVO Energy have smart meters? What smart meters do they offer?
Yes, OVO Energy offers smart meters to new and existing customers. In fact, you will only be able to access the brand’s best value tariff with a smart meter. A smart meter communicates your usage data straight to the supplier. No need to take meter readings or pay more for inaccurate estimated bills.
OVO currently offers second-generation SMETS2 smart meters. These use a secure DCC network, and unlike their first-generation counterparts they will continue to communicate usage data to your new supplier if you switch. How to apply for the Warm Home Discount with OVO Energy
If you’re struggling to heat your home in the winter months, you may be eligible for the Warm Home Discount.
This is a government initiative facilitated by energy suppliers. It allows vulnerable energy consumers can get a discount on energy between the months of September and March. If you are of pension age (core group) or receive income-related benefits (broader group) you may be eligible for this discount. Details of the 2022/2023 are not finalised yet. You can check on their website if you’re applicable.

Energy companies invest a small fortune in marketing. So it may seem like every supplier is the best one for you. OVO Energy offers 100% green energy tariffs. Customers can also gain even more green credentials if they opt for the OVO Beyond upgrade. This includes greener gas with 15% from renewable biomethane and 85% carbon-offset gas. OVO also plants not just one but 5 trees for every OVO Beyond member. This is managed through the brand’s ‘I Dig Trees’ programme and costs £6 extra a month.
What is the OVO Energy energy fuel mix?
OVO Energy’s fuel mix is 100% renewable. However, its website does not state how much of its energy comes from solar, wind, hydropower and biomass.
